Know the Law
Minnesota’s Ted Foss Move Over Law (MN Statutes Sec. 169.18 Subd. 11) states that when traveling on a road with two or more lanes, drivers must move over one full lane away from stopped emergency vehicles—ambulance, fire, law enforcement, maintenance, and construction vehicles—that have flashing lights activated.
- Minnesota’s “Quick Clearance” law (MN Statutes Sec. 168B.035 Subd. 4) gives the Minnesota State Patrol and MnDOT additional options to clear obstructions from roadways promptly.
- Minnesota’s Open Roads Agreement is a statewide agreement between MnDOT and the Minnesota State Patrol to make reopening roads and lanes a priority.
