About the Event

In today’s new vehicle fleet, market penetration of advanced driver-assistance systems and driving automation technologies continues to increase. These increases in deployment are expected to grow in the coming years as additional technologies mature.

This presentation offered an overview of the various advanced driver-assistance and driving automation systems in today’s vehicles and explained how they relate to the levels of automation described in SAE J3016.

Tim Johnson has served as the director of NHTSA’s Vehicle Research and Test Center (VRTC) since 2015. As the VRTC director, he has responsibility for carrying out applied research and testing to support agency programs in several key areas, including advanced driver-assistance technologies, human factors, heavy vehicle safety, electronic control systems safety and cybersecurity, emerging technologies such as automated vehicles, crashworthiness, biomechanics, and defect investigations.
